Heathrow Airport Terminal 4 is opened in 1986, Terminal 4 has 22 gates and is located south of the south runway next to the cargo terminal and connects to Terminals 2 and 3 via the Heathrow Cargo Tunnel. The terminal has an area of 105,481 m2 (1,135,390 sq ft) and is home to the SkyTeam alliance of Air France, Delta Air Lines, KLM and Middle East Airlines, excluding Oneworld carriers Malaysia Airlines and Air France, which currently use Terminal 3.
It has undergone a £200 million renovation to accommodate 45 airlines, with an elevated forecourt to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety. Most flights to Terminal 4 are flights from Central Asia, North Africa and the Middle East, as well as a few flights to Europe. An expanded check-in area with a new baggage system was installed, with refurbished piers and departure lounges and two new stands were built to accommodate the Airbus A380; Etihad Airways, Korean Air, Malaysia Airlines and Qatar Airways operate regular A380 flights.
Gulf Air and El Al operate regular Boeing 787 flights.
